Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 1st, 2020, said that a total of five samples have been tested positive for coronavirus in the state.
“We have found the first case in Silchar on March 31st, 2020 and four samples have been tested positive at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital,” Sarma said in a press conference here in Guwahati.
The patients have been identified as Mohammed Arsad Ali (19) of Nalbari, Hajrat Ali (60) of Jagiroad, Md Nuruddin (55) of Jagiroad and Md Jonab Ali (46) of Jagiroad.
The minister further said that a total of 347 people, who had attended the Nizamuddin Markaz congregation, have returned to Assam after March 16th, 2020. “230 out of 347 people have been identified and located so far,” he added.
Besides, he said that samples of 196 of 230 people have been collected and sent to all the five medical hospitals – Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), Assam Medical College (AMC) and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed College and Hospital.
Sarma said the Central government had provided a list of 456 people who had attended the Nizamuddin congregation and the government has received a list of 91 persons through 104 medical helpline number. “Preliminary investigation shows that 134 out of the total 547 people had not attended the Nizamuddin congregation and they are out of danger. Yet, they are being monitored,” he added.
Moreover, the minister informed that a total of 44 samples have been tested negative for coronavirus at the GMCH. “However, the figure of the COVID-19 infected patients may rise by evening,” he added.
Sarma also informed that a total of 6,292 people have donated a cumulative amount of Rs 8,28,53,926 to the government for combating coronavirus.
