Guwahati: Victor Das, a teacher at a private coaching centre, who was arrested last September 9 by Assam Police and slapped with several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been granted interim bail by the Gauhati High court on Friday.
According to reports, Das was granted bail on medical grounds.
Sources informed Victor has been suffering from fever and severe headache since Thursday night.
It may be mentioned that Victor Das (coaching institute tutor) was arrested by Assam police for allegedly spreading rumours regarding the recruitment process for Grade-III and Grade-IV posts under the state government.
In his tweets, Das raised the issue by tagging the chief minister, Assam Police, DGP Assam and GP Singh (Special DGP in Assam). The tweet caused a stir as people on social media started expressing their discontent over the matter and urged the government and the police to take serious note of the issue.
Das was remanded to seven days of police custody by the court.
Earlier, police told the media last Sunday that Das has been unable to provide any evidence to support his allegations.
Later, five students of the coaching institute reportedly run by Das in the city have also been summoned by the police for questioning.
