Guwahati: Two smugglers were arrested at a checkpoint in National Highway 36 in Karbi Anglong district of the state and seized 14 gold bars weighing 2.323 kg and worth Rs 1.30 crore from their possession, police said on Saturday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team from Dillai Police Station in Karbi Anglong set up a Naka checking on the National Highway-37 after learning that a consignment of smuggled gold was being carried by bus (registration number MN 03-0403) from Manipur.
The persons arrested have been identified as Mohammad Mohim and Mohammad Masaruddin of Manipur.
The police officials informed that the gold bars were recovered from the shoes of the smugglers.
An investigation into the case is underway.
