    Breaking: Illegal Aadhaar Card Centre Busted at Powai in Margherita

    Guwahati: An illegal Aadhaar card centre was busted near Powai Tea estate, in Margherita Sub-division on Tuesday.

    In this connection, one female and two male members of the alleged Aadhar team were detained by the Margherita Police.

    Acting aptly on several complaints, Sarfaraz Haque, ADC, Aadhaar, Tinsukia, Parishmita Dehingia, Nodal Officer, Aadhaar, Tinsukia and Siddhartha Sh. Sonowal, Executive Magistrate, Margherita along with the assistance from Satyabrata Pegu, S.I, Margherita Police station, raided the temporary establishment wherein the accused carried out the act of issuing fake Aadhar Cards to citizens, especially the marginalized tea workers.

    The Police recovered one Iris scanner, one Finger Print Scanner, one Laptop and one GPS device from the illegal centre.

    The racket has been functional for few months in different localities of the district and charged around Rs. 350-500 as fees from the locales for Aadhaar Card enrolment whereas the enrolment is free of cost from the registered centres.

    As per initial reports, the three accused in the case are from Dhemaji district and they might also be a part of larger nexus who are currently operating illegally in the other towns of Assam.

    On, the basis of video and photos were taken at the site of the operation, the civil administration will also take up the issue with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). An FIR has been lodged in the Margherita Police Station and further investigations are underway.
