Guwahati: 1991 batch IPS officer, Special DGP of Assam Dr. L R Bishnoi will be the new DGP of Meghalaya.
On Monday, in a notification from the Governor of Meghalaya said that from amongst the empanelled list of IPS Officers duly recommended by the Union Public Service Comm ission(UPSC) in its meeting held on February 9, 2022 and in the interest of public service, the Governor of Meghalaya was pleased to appoint LR Bishnoi, , Special Director General of Police(Training & Armed Police), Assam, as the Director General of Police(Head of Police Force), Meghalaya, Shillong in the Apex Scale of Pay (Level 17) in the Pay Matrix with effect from the date of taking over charge and until further orders.
As per seniority, though Special DGP of Assam, Mukesh Agarwal (1989 batch) should have been considered for the appointment as the DGP in Meghalaya, but the state government was free to appoint anyone from the three empaneled in the list that was forwarded by the UPSC on February 9, 2022. The UPSC had also shortlisted KV Singh Deo, who is a 1989 batch IPS officer.
