GUWAHATI: Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, a judge of the Uttarakhand high court, was elevated as the new Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on Thursday, the Law Ministry said.
The Supreme Court collegium had recently recommended his name for the post.
Justice Dhulia had completed LLB in 1986 and initially practiced before the Allahabad high court before shifting to the newly created Uttarakhand high court. He was appointed judge of Uttarakhand high court in 2008.
With Justice Dhulia’s appointment as chief justice of the Gauhati high court, all the 25 high courts in the country now have regular chief justices.
The government has maintained that the appointment of judges in the high courts is a ‘continuous collaborative process’ between the executive and the judiciary, as it requires consultation and approval from various constitutional authorities.
