Guwahati: In view of the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in the Kamrup Metro district, the administration has ordered to shut down all Lower Primary Schools (Class I to V) both Government and Private from April 19 until further orders.
In a notification, the District Disaster Management Authority under Kamrup Metro stated that it will review the situation and further order for the opening of the Lower Primary Schools will be issued in due course of time.
Earlier, the Assam government issued a notification that all Lower-Primary schools, re-primary schools up to class 5 in COVID-19 affected districts will be closed till May 8.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the information through his official Twitter handle.
He wrote: “IMPORTANT INFORMATION All LowerPrimarySchools, incl pre-primary, upto class 5 in #Covid_19 affected districts (100+ cases) in Assam shall remain closed till May 8 or until further orders. Please read this notification from Education Department.”
The orders come after 20 students from Assam tested positive for the virus over the past two months, forcing school administrations to opt for online classes.
At present eight districts of the state, including Kamrup metro, Kamrup rural, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Cachar, Jorhat, and Tinsukia have reported more than 100 active Covid-19 cases.
