An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale hit Assam and Northeast on May 4th, 2019. The earthquake hit the Myanmar-India border region at 4:34 pm. No casualty or property damage has been reported so far.

It may be mentioned that a high alert has been sounded in Assam in the face of the impending cyclonic storm ‘Fani’. Extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani made landfall in Puri on Odisha coast on May 3rd, 2019 triggering heavy rainfall coupled with high-velocity winds with speed of 185 kmph in vast areas.
Bhabesh Kalita, State Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, said, “All Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have been directed to take up the necessary measures. The State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force have also been alerted.”
