Breaking: NIA Charge Sheets Five ULFA-I Members in Guwahati Grenade Blast Case
Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday filed a supplementary charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Assam, Guwahati, against five ULFA-I members in RGB Road, Guwahati Grenade Blast Case.
The accused namely Pappu Koch Bokoliyal alias Bijoy Asom, Amrit Ballav Goswami, Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom, Arunodoy Dahotiya alias Bijit Gogoi and Munna Baruah alias Munna Asom has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and UA(P) Act for their role in the conspiracy of RC-04/2019/NIA/GUW.
The case relates to an incident of two ULFA (I) cadres lobbing a grenade at a police party near Central Mall, RGB Road, Guwahati which led to injuries to twelve persons. Later, accused Paresh Baruah, the self-styled Commander-in-Chief of ULFA(I) took responsibility for the terrorist attack.
NIA had re-registered the case as RC-04/2019/NIA/GUW dated 26.06.2019 and taken over the investigation. Earlier NIA had filed a chargesheet against eight (08) accused persons.
During further investigation, additional evidence has been gathered against the accused and a supplementary chargesheet has been filed under section 18B of the UA (P) Act for their role in the recruitment of ULFA (I) cadres.
The supplementary chargesheet includes accused Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom, Arunodoy Dahotiya alias Bijit Gogoi and Munna Baruah alias Munna Asom who have been charged for their roles in the conspiracy of the grenade attack and for waging war against the Union of India on the strength of additional evidence surfaced during the investigation.
