    Breaking: No lockdown in Assam yet; Primary Schools in 8 Dists to Remain Closed

    Guwahati: No Lockdown or Night curfew in Assam, however, the health department of Assam has authorised the deputy commissioners of at least eight worst COVID-hit districts in the state to take the decision to shut down Elementary Schools if there are 100 plus cases with an average case of 10 per day in their respective region, stated Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

    The worst COVID-hit districts are namely Kamup (M), Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Jorhat, Cachar, Tinsukia, Sonitpur, Kamrup Rural.

    Addressing a press conference at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) Auditorium here in Guwahati, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The authority has been given to the deputy commissioners. Whenever they find there are more than 100 plus cases in their region with an average of 10 cases per day, they can close down LP schools with immediate effect from Sunday onwards.”

    As of now, an average of 54,815 tests for COVID-19 has been conducted in the state, however, the target of 1 lakh tests might get completed by today, claimed Himanta Biswa Sarma.

    Total cases in the worst COVID-hit districts:

    Kamrup Metro – 1860, Dibrugarh – 323, Kamrup (Rural)- 285, Nagaon- 144, Jorhat- 133, Tinsukia- 131, Cachar- 120, Sonitpur- 119
