    Breaking | Rhino kills forest staff in Manas National Park

    The deceased identified as Animesh Deka (34) is a resident of Dekapara area of Bhabanipur under Baksa district

    Guwahati: In a tragic incident, an on-duty forest official was killed in a rhino attack at Bhuiyapara Range of Manas National Park in the morning hours on Friday.

    The deceased identified as Animesh Deka (34) is a resident of Dekapara area of Bhabanipur under Baksa district.

    Speaking to TIME8, Manas National Park, Director, Amal Sarma said, “The forest battalion jawan died on-duty hours. He along with another forest jawan was out for some marketing work when he was reportedly attacked by the rhino. Deka took out his rifle and opened fire in self-defence, but missed his target and was killed by the rhino. The other jawan, however, managed to escape from the spot, but Deka was reported to have died on the spot.”

    It is quite shocking to mention that the deceased jawan leaves behind his wife and family. He reportedly married three months back.  

    The incident was mourned in the entire Barpeta and Bajali regions.
