BREAKING: Singer Kalpana Patowary to contest from Sarukhetri for AGP
GUWAHATI: Popular folk singer Kalpana Patowary, who also known as ‘Bhojpuri Queen’, has been fielded to contest from Sarukhetri seat by the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally of the BJP coalition.
She had joined AGP in October 2020 at an event held at party’s head office in Guwahati.
Soon after Patowary joined AGP, the party leadership appointed her as the brand ambassador of the party.
AGP declared her candidature on Friday via a tweet. The party has on Thursday declared its second list of six candidates for the upcoming state assembly polls. Earlier on Sunday, AGP had declared its first list of eight candidates.
While BJP led NDA alliance had left 26 constituencies for AGP in the upcoming poll, AGP later declared that it would also have a friendly fight with its ally in some five seats of Lakhimpur, Naharkatia, Patharkandi, Palasbari and Kamalpur.
The party currently has 13 MLAs in the 126-member Assam Assembly, which is going to polls in three phases.
