Guwahati, March 16, 2019
Tezpur MP RP Sharma on March 16th 2019 announced that he has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).
The announcement came days after reports that Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s candidature from Tezpur constituency is almost final. If reports are believed to be true this will be the Minister’s parliamentary poll debut.
“Resigning from the primary membership of the BJP right now after serving the RSS/VHP for 15 years and the BJP for 29 years. I felt greatly insulted when my name, a sitting MP and the President of Assam Gorkha Sammelan, did not find place in panel sent up by the state BJP committee. Friends and the people of Assam and my constituency, I will continue to serve you till the end of my life. I will always lovingly nurture your support and love for me for such a long time. I love you from the core of my heart,” (sic) Sharma shared on his facebook profile.
Earlier the Tezpur MP had expressed his anguish over the reports and termed it as `great injustice’ by the BJP. He had further threatened to resign from party if denied a ticket.
Meanwhile, the senior BJP leader has called for a media interaction at 12 noon on Saturday at his official residence in New Delhi concerning his resignation from BJP.
