GANGTOK: With the Sikkim government decided to open its borders for unrestricted interstate movement from October 1 onwards and hotels, homestays and other tourism-related services to begin unhindered business operations from October 10 onwards, the home department has ordered a complete lockdown in the Gangtok municipal corporation (GMC) area from September 21 to September 27 as part of “special measures” to contains the spread of COVID-19 in GMC.
As per the home department, vehicles would not be allowed to ply except those authorised or engaged in essential services.
“State govt offices will operate on 30% staff strength, all shops, except those selling essential items, will remain closed,” the official order said.
As for tourism, an SOP for the operation of hotels is expected soon and while the odd-even regulation will be lifted for passenger vehicles, they continue to apply to private vehicles.
The order said that there would be no restrictions on interstate movement from October 10 and there would be no need for any registration.
