GUWAHATI: In an incident of a suspected militant attack in Assam’s Diphu district, one trader was shot dead in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as one Debajit Sinha from Diphu town’s Sitalabari area.

According to police, the unidentified gunmen armed with 9 mm pistols, shot Sinha from point-blank while he was on his way to the Dhansiri area.

A preliminary probe revealed that two persons blocked him while he was on his way to Dhansiri on a two-wheeler. After a commotion, the duo shot him and ran away with his motorbike.

Police have cordoned the area and intensified operations to nab the culprits.

On Friday also, unknown miscreants allegedly lobbed a grenade at a market in the Tinsukia district in which two persons have died.
