Guwahati: A combined force of ULFA (Independent), Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) & Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) claimed responsibility of the attack on Assam Rifles in Manipur that occurred on Wednesday and claimed three army jawans’ lives.
Earlier, security forces suspected that the attack was done by People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militants.
In a joint statement to media from ULFA (I) Chief of Army Staff, Paresh Baruah said that the ambush was a part of its operation against the Indian expansionism tactics.
Along with Baruah, the statement was also signed by Ruichumhao, defence secretary of Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) and MM Ngouba, chief of army staff, PLA too
The statement said, “Internationally ‘the era of expansionism is over’ but not the Indian expansionism. As the entire world has made up its mind against expansionism, the people of WeSEA are also countering against the expansionism of India. As a course of the independence struggle against Indian colonisation and expansionism, a combined force of MNPF, Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and ULFA-I had conducted a joint military offensive against Indian forces on July 29 at Sajik Tampak area of Manipur.”
In the statement, the militant leader claimed that at least four army personnel were killed and several others were injured.
The outfit leaders also expressed regret on the death of people from the region. “We deeply regret that in our liberation struggle our brothers of WeSEA are killed or wounded in action. We know that joining the Indian force is not right because roguish India makes enmity among our brothers. Therefore, we would like to ask our brothers and sisters of WeSEA to please withdraw from the Indian forces and instead fight against roguish India for our independence,” it added.
One Assam Rifle personnel from Assam’s Barpeta district identified as Pranay Kalita was also killed in the ambush.
