GUWAHATI: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) was likely to field its candidates in at least nine seats, said UPPL and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief, Pramod Boro, following a party meeting on Friday.
The UPPL is a part of BJP led NDA in which Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is also a part. Earlier, NDA had decided to leave at least eight seats for ally UPPL.
Boro said, “We are also planning to contest in some two seats outside the BTC region too. The discussions are on and yet to reach a final decision. We will contest in at least nine seats.”
He added that discussions were on with BJP also on the Bijni constituency in which both UPPLand BJP wanted to contest from there.
The UPPLon Wednesday announced the name of Azad Kamal as its candidate for the Kalaigaon constituency in Udalguri for the second phase election to be held on April 1. Prior to it, the party fielded two candidates- Gobinda Chandra Basumtary from Udalguri and Ratendra Daimary from Mazbat.
