GUWAHATI: Huge consignments of narcotics were seized by the Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force(BSF) in two separate operations along the Indo-Bangladesh bordering village of Digaltari village and East Sitai village in Coochbehar district of West Bengal.
The seizures included 860 Yaba tablets and 12 Kg Ganja. One person identified as Najir Hussain(29) resident of Dighaltari, Sahebganj under the Coochbehar district in West Bengal was also arrested in the operations.
According to the BSF, “Acting on a tip-off, BSF troops carried out a special operation in the Digaltari village. Alerted BSF troops stopped the suspicious motorcycle rider near BOP Digaltari. After searching in the motorcycle, a packet containing 860 Yaba tablets concealed in the motorcycle was seized. This rider was taking the tablets to Bangladesh.”
In the second operation, the BSF troops while carrying out a special operation in the general area of East Sitai village in Cooch Behar district, seized 12 Kgs Ganja, while the consignments were being taken to Bangladesh.
BSF has handed over the accused and the seizure to police already.
“Keeping in view the vulnerability of border, heightened activities of the smugglers and anti-national elements on the border, BSF troops are always alert towards the issues of trans-border crimes and illegal infiltration and are making all-out efforts to prevent commission of such crimes,” said BSF Guwahati frontier in a statement.
