GUWAHATI: In a major political development in Assam, the rift between the ruling BJP and its ally Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) was out in the open as Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lambasted BPF for misrule and corruption in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

Sarma while attending a public rally in Udalguri’s Mudoibari area on Friday said that the BPF has lost its relevance in the BTC region.

In his speech, he said, “We gave them (BPF) opportunity for 15 years to rule but no desired results have been achieved. Due to corruption and discrimination, development has been a distant cry for the people of the area. Even if they are in ally we will always speak against corruption.”

Sarma even asked the BPF government to give an audit report of the Rs 1000 crore package allotted to them in the last five years.

“What happened to the government funds allotted for BTC’s development? How many roads have been made and how many people got jobs? I would ask Hagrama Mohillary to give an audit report on the expenses,” the BJP minister added.

Sarma on Friday declared that the Gorkha Festival Bhai Tika also celebrated as Bhai Dhuj in India will be a State Holiday. The festival is slated on November 16.

BJP has decided to contest the ensuing BTC polls against its ally BPF.
