Guwahati, February 6, 2019

In order to boost tourism, the Assam tourism department would focus on the development and publicity of the various places of tourist interest, including those places known for their natural beauty as well as places of religious or historical importance. This was announced by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 6th, 2019 and launched the scheme ‘Asom Darshan’.

The department, under the Asom Darshan scheme, will enhance the annuity grant to the devalayas by Rs 2 lakh for each religious institution. In addition to that, a one-time grant of Rs 1 lakh will be given for installing the CCTV cameras in all the religious places for security purpose.

A total amount of Rs 150 crore has been earmarked for the improvement of basic infrastructure and amenities like restrooms, clean drinking water, garbage disposal etc in places of natural beauty and historical significance.

The department has earmarked Rs 150 crore for the improved connectivity of visitors to tourist, historic, religious and spiritual destinations. A sum of Rs 10 lakh has been set aside for the infrastructural improvement of over 800 religious destinations across the state.

Assam Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma had informed that in 2017-18, a total of 31,739 foreign tourists visited Assam.

The number of domestic tourists were 57,13,156 and 59,34,791 in 2016-17 and 2017-18. The amount of revenue earned in 2016-17 was Rs 1, 64,888, 41 as compared to 2015-16, which amounted to only Rs 85,48,212. The total amount of revenue received from January-August, 2018 is Rs. 61,53,411.

Priyanka on-board 

The Assam Government informed that an amount of Rs 68,15,961 has been spent on the travelling for the preparation of the advertisements featuring Assam Tourism Brand Ambassador Priyanka Chopra.

Asom Adarsha Gram Yojana

Under the Asom Adarsha Gram Yojana, the government will focus on ensuring last mile delivery and holistic dest of villages the implementation of existing schemes, creating access to basic services, improving infrastructure, reducing economic disparities and enhancing the quality of living.

“The concept was inspired from the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi where two villages from each of the 126 constituencies will be selected for overall transformation as model villages where an allocation of Rs 5 crore per village has been decided,” Sarma added.
