Guwahati: Mumbai cyber police on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old engineering student from Bengaluru in connection with the ‘Bulli Bai’ app ‘auctioning’ Muslim women.

The accused has been identified as Vishal Kumar, who is a civil engineering student. He was earlier detained by police in connection with the same.

Moreover, police has also detained a woman from Uttarakhand who seems to the mastermind behind the app.

The accused woman will be presented before a court in Uttarakhand for transit remand. Later she will be brought to Mumbai.

Reportedly, officials informed that both the persons are known to each other and the duo became friends via social media site – Instagram.

The Mumbai cyber police have also informed that they have registered a case against the app developers and Twitter handles that promoted the app.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Muslim women were listed for ‘auction’ on the ‘Bulli Bai’ app with photographs sourced without permission and doctored. It has happened for the second time in less than a year.

The app appeared to be a clone of Sulli Deals which triggered a similar row last year.

Amid outrage over Muslim women being targeted through the dodgy app, the Delhi Police had sought details from the GitHub platform about the developer of the ‘Bulli Bai’ mobile application and asked Twitter to block and remove related “offensive contents” on its platform.
