Guwahati: Burmese supari mafia Abdul Hanan was seriously injured in a police firing while he was trying to flee from custody on Tuesday evening.
As per police reports, accused Abdul Hanan was shot on his knees and was immediately sent to Bongaigaon civil hospital.
Notably, the supari mafia Abdul Hanan was taken to Saparakata in relation to an investigation in the Burmese betelnut case, when he allegedly snatched the service pistol from the possession of OC Bongaigaon Upen Kalita and tried to attack police to escape from custody.
Thus, the police team led by OC Kalita resort to using firearms to prevent the escape of the dreadful criminal from the spot. Second OC Krishanu Pathak of Bongaigaon Sadar police station also suffered injuries in the firing incident.
Meanwhile, Bongaigaon superintendent of police, Swapnil Deka has reached the civil hospital.
