GUWAHATI: The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be implemented soon, said BJP President JP Nadda on Monday.
Nadda further said that the process of framing of rules has already started. The BJP chief was on a day-long visit to Bengal to take stock of organisational matters ahead of the 2021 assembly elections.
“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, implementation of CAA got delayed. Since the situation is slowing improving, work has started and rules are now being framed,” Nadda said while taking part at a meeting of a social group of north Bengal in Siliguri.
He added, “Everyone will be benefited by CAA.”
The contentious legislation was passed by Parliament during the winter session in December last year, leading to widespread protests in the northeast as well as across the country.
At least five persons died in police firing in Assam while out on protecting against CAA.
