Calcutta-based Sketch Artist to help crack Sivasagar Train Murder Mystery

Guwahati, July 12: Calcutta-based sketch artist Debashish Banerjee arrived in Sivasagar on Thursday in relation with the murder and alleged rape of a student of Assam Agriculture University on Tuesday.

Banerjee is preparing a sketch of the man who was allegedly present in the same coach with Radha based on the descriptions provided by the student’s mother.

At the time of filing this report, Banerjee has started to draw the sketch of the man at Radha’s residence.

Earlier the mother of the unfortunate girl, while speaking to media, stated that there was a man on board the coach and who was trying to help her daughter get on when she had gone to the Sivasagar Railway Station to drop her on Saturday morning. She had also revealed that the coach was almost empty and there seemed to be no one else in that particular coach. There was no sign of any security personnel nearby, she added. She expressed her suspicions that the particular man in the coach murdered her daughter.

The sketch by Banerjee might prove to be the crucial turning point in the murder mystery given the fact that there was no CCTV present in the railway stations.

It may be mentioned, time and again the Assam Police has availed the services of Banerjee to proceed with the investigations of several cases. Based on the sketches, made by Banerjee, police departments across the country has been able to crack many high-profile cases.

Banerjee had earlier assisted the Assam police in the investigation of Guwahati serial blasts case in 2008 and also the murder of agriculture department superintendent engineer Gadapani Pathak in 2012.

He also assisted the Assam Police is the investigation of the shootout of minority student leader Lafiqul Islam Ahmed.
