GUWAHATI: Two officials of Dima Hasao district, identified as block development officer Jayanta Sarkar and junior engineer Anjan Hafila, were convicted and awarded one-year imprisonment by the CBI special court on Wednesday for misappropriation of MGNREGA funds in Diyungbra development block.

The special CBI judge Mahendra Kalita in his order said that the prosecution has proved beyond doubt that the accused had committed the crime and the evidence were “consistent and coherent”.

The duo had forged documents like cash memos and made false entries to swindle funds worth around Rs 35.45 lakh under the scheme in 2006-07.

They had shown that various construction works were done but in reality, no construction took place. The firm which supplied various materials also did not exist.
