In a bid to fight the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis in the West Garo Hills district in Meghalaya, the Union Health Ministry has rushed an expert to assist the district administration. The expert hails from Japanese Encephalitis Division of the ministry.
At least 16 JE cases have been reported till June 19th, 2019, eight of which are from Tura, officials said. The first two cases of Japanese Encephalitis were reported almost a week ago in the district.
The centre has asked the state health minister AL Hek to review the situation urgently. AL Hek said as quoted by India Today, “The state nodal officer of the national vector-borne disease control programme has been asked to also report to the district administration and to provide assistance. Another expert from the health ministry is also arriving.”
In Assam, as per reports, 111 suspected cases have been detected in Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) from January to June 2019 out of which eight died of Japanese encephalitis and 21 died of AES.
