Guwahati: In a major shift to the vaccination police, the Centre has now taken full responsibility and decided provide vaccines for free to states to vaccinate those above 18 years from June 21, 2021.
The Prime Minister in his address to the nation on Monday announced that starting June 21, all citizens above 18 years of age will get free vaccines.
Government of India will buy 75 percent of the total production of the vaccine producers and provide to the states free of cost, Modi said.
He also informed that the system of 25 percent vaccines being procured directly by the private hospitals will continue. State governments will monitor that only a Rs 150 service charge is levied by the private hospitals over the decided price of the vaccines.
Terming it as the biggest epidemic in 100 years, the PM said that India has created a new health infrastructure to take on the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking about vaccination, PM said that the supply will increase manifold in near future. He said that India launched two made-in-India vaccines in less than a year.
On vaccination policy, the PM said that it was decided that those who were vulnerable would be given the vaccines first. He also cautioned everyone to observe Covid protocol as it is atill the biggest weapon to stay safe from the virus.
In another major announcement, the Prime Minister conveyed the decision of extension Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna till Deepawali. This means that till November, 80 crore people will continue to get decided amount of free food grain every month. During the pandemic, the government is standing with the poor for all his needs as his friend, said the Prime Minister.
