Guwahati: Come Monday and thousands of people from Tengani in Upper Assam’s Golaghat district are likely to start a foot march towards Dispur breaking the lockdown. The reason-they want anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) leader Akhil Gogoi’s immediate and unconditional release.
On Sunday, the Brihattar Tengani Unnayan Sangram Samiti warned the state government that thousands of residents of the area will be forced to march on foot towards Guwahati to rescue Gogoi.
“We give the state government 24 hours of time to release Akhil Gogoi unconditionally. If not released within the given time, we will march towards Guwahati to rescue Akhil Gogoi breaking the lockdown. The BJP-led state government has been doing injustice to the peasant leader,” the Samiti members said While demonstrating a human chain in protest against the arrest and confinement of the anti-CAA protester and Krishak Kumti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader
Gogoi was put behind bars in December last year during the anti CAA movement, continued to be in judicial custody since then. He tested COVID19 positive on Saturday and currently undergoing medical treatment in Guwahati Medical College Hosptial (GMCH)
Reiterating that the people of Assam will never accept the CAA, Samiti said, “The state government is on the perception that only Akhil Gogoi’s mother has been crying for her son. However, they (state government) should know that the entire mothers’ fraternity of the state has been crying for the release of Gogoi today.”
The Samiti warned, “Do not add salt to the wound. No force can stop us. We will fight against CAA till the last drop of the blood exists in our body. Better you (state government) stop exploiting and dominating us. If we start resisting the unlawful oppression, the BJP and the RSS will be responsible for the consequences of any untoward incidents.”
It also demanded the state government to provide appropriate treatment to Gogoi at the earliest.
The human chain was participated by a number of senior citizens, women, youths and even minors.
