Guwahati: The Assam government is likely to extend the lockdown-like restrictions in certain districts including a ban in the inter-district movement of vehicles to control the spread of the deadly virus.
Assam Government had ban ned the inter-district movement of vehicles since May 21, 2021 after the state registered a record number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.
In the meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed that the fresh new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be issued on Tuesday.
Speaking to TIME8, state health minister Keshab Mahanta said, “Chances of lifting restrictions in inter-district travel is less. However, relaxations will be provided in districts where the COVID situations have improved. There will be strict restrictions in some districts with highest COVID cases.”
It is to be noted that districts namely Jorhat, Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Golaghat will be kept under close watch, as the COVID situation in these districts is not improving much.
Earlier, CM Sarma claimed before the media that the recovery rate in the state has touched 95% which is a good sign of improvement.
As on Monday, the state recorded 2,640 fresh COVID cases with a positivity rate of 2.27%.
The mortality rate in the state has also come down to 0.90%, as per the National Health Mission data.
Till Sunday, 31 patients succumbed to the deadly Coronavirus.
