Guwahati: There was chaos at the Demow Model Hospital here on Sunday after a woman gave birth to a stillborn baby after nurses and sanitation workers allegedly attempted delivery in the absence of a doctor.
The family members staged a protest outside the hospital, demanding action against the doctor and nurses for the alleged negligence.
According to reports, Monika Koiri (22), wife of Raju Kairi of Upper Baruasangmai village, was admitted to the hospital on September 20 at the Demow Model Hospital in Sivasagar district.
On Saturday, the patient was rushed to the labour ward after premature rupture of the membranes (PROM) also said as (Water Breaking).
At around at 9 am on Sunday, the medical staff at the hospital informed the family members of Monika Koiri that she gave birth to a stillborn baby.
The news of the death incident spread out like wildfire in Demow.
The husband along with his family raised a hue and cry outside the hospital premises.
He accused the nurses and sanitation workers of giving birth in the absence of an obstetrician and later lodged a police complaint with the Demow Police Station.
Sources informed that one Dr Seemanta Jyoti Taye (obstetrician) at the Demow Model Hospital is likely to be summoned for questioning in connection to the case on Monday.
