As Shillong is gearing up to bid farewell to the Archbishop Dominic Jala on October 23rd, 2019, the Shillong Traffic Police has come up with a traffic plan in view of public safety and convenience for attending the funeral service which is scheduled to be held at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkrah.
Temporary arrangements like no entry points and parking arrangements for light motor and heavy motor vehicles will be enforced from 6 am on October 23rd, 2019 till its withdrawn.
Entry from Dhankheti point towards Don Bosco point and vice versa will not be allowed. Parking arrangements for light motor vehicles will be in 12 points – Selesian Training Centre, Don Bosco Technical School, Malki PlayGround, Christ King College Basketball Court, St. Mary’s School Campus, Moreao Institute of Integral Training, St. Anthony’s College Basketball Court, St. Margaret Compound, St. Anthony’s H.S. School Stadium, Loreto Convent School, New parking lot of Loreto Convent School and St. Edmunds College parking lot.
Meanwhile, for heavy motor vehicles, a total of four points have been allotted for parking. They are, Nongthymmai PlayGround and Madan lewrynghep ground for vehicles coming from Laitkor side. Bucher road for vehicles coming from Upper Shillong side and SRGT Polo for vehicles coming from G.S. road via Mawlai – Phudmuri road.
The Shillong Traffic Police have requested everyone to abide by the traffic arrangements for the funeral service.
It may be mentioned, the Archbishop died in a car accident at Colusa County Oakland in California, the USA on October 10th, 2019 at around 2:20 pm (IST 11 am on October 11th, 2019).
