Guwahati: Amid the ongoing controversy over Aamir Khan’s recently released Hindi film Lal Singh Chadha, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday stated that the Bollywood superstar wanted to visit the state, but because this time the focus is on 75th Independence Day and the whole Tiranga initiative and its significance, so he requested him to postpone his visit in the state to a later date.
The news came after Bollywood actor Aamir Khan spoke with the chief minister on the phone.
Speaking to the media, CM Sarma said, “Yes, Aamir Khan wanted to visit Assam, He had spoken to me over the phone. But, since we didn’t want to dilute the focus from the 75th Independence Day and the whole Tiranga initiative and its significance, therefore, I requested him to postpone his visit to a later date.”
CM Sarma also mentioned that they are in touch over the phone and the actor will visit the state whenever he invites him.
Sources said that Mr Perfectionist wanted to visit the city on August 14 to promote his movie, Lal Singh Chadha. He is now expected to visit on August 16.
Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, which arrived in theatres on August 11, has received mixed reviews from critics.
The movie, which is an authentic remake of Tom Hanks-starring 1994 Hollywood blockbuster Forrest Gump, recounts the incredible journey of a simpleton named “Laal” as he pursues his love and goals.
The movie apparently disappointed the audience because of its sluggish on opening day. Despite Thursday being a holiday, early predictions indicate that the Aamir Khan-starring film could only make Rs 11 crore.
It was a poor opening day at the box office amid calls for a boycott.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan earlier donated Rs 25 lakh to the chief minister relief fund of Assam to aide to the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims of the state.
On June 27 this year, Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his official Twitter handle saying, “Eminent Bollywood actor Amir Khan extended a helping hand to the flood-affected people of our State by making a generous contribution of Rs 25 lakh towards CM Relief Fund. My sincere gratitude for his concern and act of generosity”.
