Chinook lifts kitchen garden seeds at remote Vijaynagar in Arunachal Pradesh

GUWAHATI: Heavy-lift helicopter Chinook on Thursday took off for Vijaynagar, a remote town in Indo-Myanmar border, carrying kitchen garden seeds.

Arunachal government had recently launched nutritional kitchen garden and cluster farming schemes for Atma Nirbhar Bharat encouraging vocal for the local campaign. In accordance with the scheme, cluster nutritional kitchen garden would be taken up by selecting 2000 households in each assembly constituency block-wise who would provide 5 to 100-hectare area in the districts.

Vijaynagar is the remotest tehsil of Changlang district in the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a cluster of 16 villages on the border with Myanmar, 157 km by foot from the nearest town Miao located in Changland district while Putao (40 km) is the nearest city in Myanmar.

Vijaynagar is still reached by air. The remote residents of Vijaynagar take seven to ten days to reach Miao by foot in emergency cases. A road connection to Miao, costing ₹225 crores, was dedicated in February 2013 but has been delayed by environmental activists concerned about the National Park.
