Guwahati: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) will be investigating the Rituparna Pegu murder case which took place in Guwahati’s Noonmati on Friday.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has assured that the culprits will be punished for their alleged crime and announced that the case will be handed by the CID.
Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) on Saturday, protesting against the alleged murder demanded capital punishment for the persons involved in the crime. They stated that the case should be forwarded to a fast track court and not only the culprits behind Rituparna’s murder, every persons who had committed such horrific crimes such as rapes and murders should be hanged.
They claimed that once such criminals are hanged, they will thank the Assam government.
It may be mentioned that on Friday 26-year-old youth identified as Rituparna Pegu was allegedly killed in the city’s Noonmati by a person named Hussain Ali.
The incident occurred in broad day light and was recorded on CCTV. Pegu had engaged in a heated argument with the prime accused in the case Hussain Ali after which the latter allegedly stabbed him.
According to police, Ali allegedly stabbed him in the back with a sharp object, following which Pegu died. Although Pegu was immediately rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Eye witnesses claimed the duo confronted with each other over a ‘furniture stool’.
“They fought over a stool. After the argument started, Ali brought his family members that led to a scuffle. Then Ali stabbed Pegu in his back with a knife”, said Arman Ali, the owner of the shop where the argument took place.
Guwahati Police have arrested five persons including Ali in connection to the case.
