Citizenship Bill Report To Be Tabled In Parliament In December

NRC will be published again under the leadership PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 23rd, 2019 announced that the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill report will be tabled in the parliament in the month of December, 2019.

“BJP does not believe in NRC as it has not fulfilled for what it was initiated. Neither NRC is a national document. It will be published again under the leadership of Modi ji and Amit Shah ji. BJP will bring CAB in December”, Sarma said while addressing a party meeting in Karimganj.

The meeting was also attended by State Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, Silchar MLA Dilip Paul and MP Kripanath Mallah.

It may be mentioned that the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill which evoked massive agitation in Assam including other Northeastern states seeks to grant Indian citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis who have become the victims of religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and entered India on or before December 31st, 2014. It may be mentioned that the Bill was cleared by the Lok Sabha on January 8th, 2019 but lapsed in the Rajya Sabha.

While speaking about the Bill Sarma further added, “I do not want to bring the bill amid disputes. Hinduism is eternal. It is written in the Vedas around 5000 years ago that India will not have any existence without Sanatan Dharma,”.
