Citizenship Bill Row | Gauhati University students garland Himanta’s photograph with shoes

Guwahati, January 10: The Gauhati University Post-Graduate Students’ Union on Thursday staged a 10-hour-long hunger strike in front of the varsity’s main gate in protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government’s move to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

As a part of the protest, the students hanged garland of shoes on the photo of the Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and placed shoes on the photograph of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma might recall his days at the varsity after seeing his photograph decorated with the garland of shoes. The minister should understand why he faced the wrath and criticism in the varsity where he once studied,” a  protesting student said.
