Agartala, January 9: Prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed for indefinite period at Tripura’s Madhabbari and adjacent areas following the clash between the police and the protesters where at least seven persons were injured, police informed.
As part of the North East Students’ Organisation’s call for shutdown against the centre’s move to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the protesters staged protest on Tuesday.
Police fired rubber bullets and used tear gas to chase away the protesters.
“The situation is completely under control now,” Sub-divisional police Officer (SDPO) Prankrishna Das said.
Assam Rifles and state police personnel were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward situation if happens, he said.
Besides, the Tripura government on Tuesday suspended SMS and mobile Internet services in the state for two days to bring the law and order situation under control.
