Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) on February 12th, 2019 said that the much-debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2018 will change the demographics of the Northeast. KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi is in Delhi to hold talks with the opposition parties to ensure they vote against controversial Bill.
“This Bill is against secularism and constitution of India. It will change the demographics of Northeast,” he said. The KMSS had held talks with Janata Dal (United), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to ensure vote against the Bill.
Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on February 12th, 2019 said there have been “misplaced apprehensions” about the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Various students’ unions, political leaders from the Northeastern states including some Chief Ministers met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on various issues related to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Amid protests, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will table the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Rajya Sabha on February 12th, 2019. The bill was passed in Lok Sabha on January 8th, 2019.
