New Delhi, February 11, 2019

All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) chief advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya on February 11th, 2019 said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will ‘psychologically’  alienate the people of the Northeast region from the mainland India. A delegation of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) held talks with Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary and Janta Dal (United) chief general secretary KC Tyagi over Citizenship (Amendment) Bill issue on February 11th, 2019.

“Daimary has assured the NESO delegation of taking appropriate action to prevent the Bill from the passage in the Rajya Sabha for the greater cause of the indigenous people of the state,” Bhattacharya said.

Meanwhile, Tyagi said the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government cannot pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha as the majority of the political parties have united against the Bill.

“Apart from Shiv Sena and JD (U), all the allies of the NDA have opposed the Bill. United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has also opposed the Bill. Besides, all the existing allies of the BJP in the Northeast region have also raised voice against the Bill. So, there is no question of passing the Bill in the Rajya Sabha,” Tyagi said.
