The death toll in police firing on protesters against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rose to four after two youths succumbed to their injuries in Guwahati on December 15th, 2019.

Both the persons died due to police firing which took place during violent clashes between protesters and security personnel in Guwahati last week. Earlier, Sams Steford and Dipanjal Das had succumbed to injuries caused due to police firing in Guwahati.

As per information, 175 people have been arrested and 1,460 protesters have been detained across the state.  Day curfew has been withdrawn in Guwahati from 6 am of December 16th, 2019.

“The situation in the State has improved immensely. We thank the people of Assam for following the spirit of the law. Day curfew has been withdrawn in Guwahati from 0600hrs of December 16. Night curfew would remain from 2100hrs till 0600hrs next day i.e. December 17, 2019,” tweeted Assam Police.
