CM Sonowal Inaugurates Majuli Raas Festival; Urges For Building Society Based On Spirituality

People should follow the motto Work is Worship, Duty is God: Sarbananda Sonowal

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on November 11th, 2019, while inaugurating the Raas festival at Majuli, urged the people of the state to contribute to build a society based on spirituality and moral values.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonnowal said, “People should not allow their human births to get wasted. They should follow the motto Work is Worship, Duty is God.”

Appealing the people of the river island district to set an example of generous hospitality to the visiting tourists, the CM said that Indian culture is based on the motto of ‘Atithi Debo Bhava’. “Majuli’s natural beauty, legacy, cultural heritage and history must be preserved and the people of Majuli have an important role to play in this regard,” he added.

Besides, citing Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Sonowal said that the greater Assamese cultural identity is based on the image of Lord Krishna and his teachings. “If we can realise the true essence of God’s teachings, then we can take steps for preserving the earth,” Sonowal said.

The CM also inaugurated tented accommodations for tourists set up by Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) at the Raas Festival venue at Garamur in the district. He also unveiled the map of 58 Raas Festival venues in Majuli.  ATDC has set up a total of 100 tented accommodations at Garamur, Jengraimukh and Kamalabari in Majuli.

It may be mentioned that with an objective to project Majuli as an epicentre of Satra culture and a seat of mythological tourism globally, CM Sonowal on October 30th, 2019, launched a website www.majuliraas.in of Majuli district administration.
