Colonel Manoranjan Goswami breathes his last in Mumbai

Guwahati, November 9: Retired Army Officer Colonel Manoranjan Goswami passed away after battling a long illness in Mumbai on Friday night.

Colonel Goswami is the father of popular journalist Arnab Goswami.

Arnab in a brief message to the media fraternity today morning said that Colonel Goswami passed away at around 12:45 am in Mumbai after ‘battling a long illness’ and the mortal remains would be brought to Guwahati later on Friday and the final rites will be performed in Guwahati on Saturday afternoon.

Colonel Goswami  was a retired Army officer from Assam, a columnist and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his Twitter handle and offered condolences.

“My heartfelt condolences to Arnab Goswami & family on the sad demise of his father Colonel Manoranjan Goswami, whom I’ve known as a wonderful human being. A brilliant commentator, Col Goswami was a strong voice on social & political issues Prayers to the departed soul (sic),” Sarma wrote.

It may be mentioned that Colonel Goswami contested for the 1998 Lok Sabha Polls as the BJP candidate for the Guwahati seat where he was defeated by his opponent Bhubaneshwar Kalita representing Congress.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi condoled the death of Col Goswami a noted writer and social worker.

Mukhi while expressing his condolence, said that with his death, the state has lost a litterateur and a social worker. He left behind a legacy of his works both in the civil and military domain which would definitely be a source of inspiration.

He expressed his empathy with the bereaved family members and prayed to God for eternal peace of the departed soul.
