Congress demands Judicial probe in all recruitments during Sonowal govt

Saikia alleged that Assam police have deliberately refrained from trying to find out the names and the number of candidates who paid the bribes

GUWAHATI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia demanded an enquiry by a sitting judge of the Gauhati high court into all recruitments made in the last four-and-a-half years of BJP government in the state.

Citing the ongoing Assam Police SI recruitment scam, Saikia alleged that BJP was operating a new syndicate involving recruitment to various departments of the state government and.

Saikia said, “Adherence to a particular ideology or payment of bribes to specific middlemen were the means to secure jobs during the tenure of the incumbent state government.”

He alleged that a few middlemen such as Saroj Sarma have been arrested along with a couple of former and serving police officers, but the police have been unable to muster the courage even to question other suspects because the latter enjoy political protection.

“It is clear that the recruitment scam is all-pervasive and has been going on quite some time because admit cards of recruitment examinations pertaining to other governments such as the Irrigation Department have been seized from Saroj Sarma and other middlemen,” added Saikia alleging that Assam police have deliberately refrained from trying to find out the names and the number of candidates who paid the bribes.

He further alleged that an amount of more than Rs. 5 crore had been seized, but the actual amount of money recovered so far is being kept under wraps due to political intervention and the money may have been already misappropriated.

The Congress leader pointed out that on 12th October the Irrigation department centrally declared results of a state-wide recruitment drive for around 400 posts of Section Assistants while the examination was conducted by Aptech, which has been blacklisted elsewhere due to involvement in irregularities during similar exercises in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Referring to the Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal’s frequent claims of providing a clean administration and zero-tolerance of corruption, Saikia reiterated his call for a judicial probe and said that Sonowal ought to respect the faith reposed in him by the public.

Similarly, Badruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has also called for a high-level probe in the recruitment process of state’s irrigation and panchayat departments alleging huge corruption.
