GUWAHATI: Congress ups target to 100: Himanta Biswa terms ‘Overconfident’ : Amidst preparation of all political parties ahead of the state polls, Congress has ‘modified’ its aim and claimed that it would target at least 100 seats out of the 126 seats in Assam.
The party which was claiming to win some 75-80 seats in the ensuing polls a few weeks back has changed its version recently.
According to the party’s state president, Ripun Bora the rise in the target was obvious after the formation of the ‘grand alliance’ with Badruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), the regional Anchalik Gana Morcha and three Left Front parties – the Communist Party of India, the CPI (Marxist) and CPI (Marxist-Leninist).
He said, “We had initially set our sights on 80 seats. But after forming the grand alliance, we are confident of winning at least 100.”
Congress’ fresh version came almost a year later BJP and its allies had launched its ‘mission 100+’ in 2020.
Reacting to Congress’s statement, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Congress is only being overconfident.”
