Chief Minister of Meghalaya and National People’s Party (NPP)’s supremo Conrad K Sangma exuded confidence that the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) will win in large numbers in both Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats.
Sangma also appealed to the people to turn out in huge numbers to exercise their right to vote which the Constitution of India has bestowed on them.
Post casting his vote at the Walbakgre Polling Station of West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya, he said, “Our candidate Agatha Sangma, whom we have fielded for the Tura Lok Sabha seat, will surely win and we are proud of her. Also, Jemino Mawthoh who is our candidate for the Shillong seat is already in the path of winning.”
“We have received an overwhelming response from the rest of the states of Northeast India and I request each and everyone to come out and vote in large numbers. We have contested a total of 12 seats in the entire Northeast and we will definitely garner the maximum number of votes,” he added.
The two Lok Sabha parliamentary seats in the state – Shillong and Tura are witnessing polls on April 11th, 2019. A total of 19 lakh voters are exercising their franchise to elect the two MPs of the state.
A total of nine candidates are in the fray for two Lok Sabha seats and the key contenders of Shillong are sitting Congress MP Vincent H Pala, Jemino Mawthoh of the UDP and Sanbor Shullai of the BJP.
An estimated 35 per cent of the 19,14,795 voters their votes till 11:45 am, Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Roy Kharkongor said.
For the Tura seat, Agatha of the NPP, Mukul Sangma of the Congress and Rickman G Momin of the BJP are in battle.
