Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on September 1st, 2019 recalled the contribution of his father, late Purno Agitok Sangma, a former Lok Sabha Speaker and Union Minister on his 72nd birth anniversary.
The Chief Minister said that late Sangma’s vision for people is the guiding principle for him and National People’s Party. Conrad took to social media and wrote an emotionally moving post remembering his father and how he misses him.
Conrad said that his father was always his inspiration.”He was someone who stood up for what was right and he did so with kindness and compassion for everyone else. He was an exemplary statesman and a wonderful father,” the Chief Minister said.
He added, “I will always remember his as a people’s person. Agatha, James and I decided to carry forward his legacy by choosing to continue working for the people, state and country he so loved.”

Conrad said that his father’s sense of duty as a leader speaks of his tireless efforts to ensure a government that is accountable towards its people.
‘Baba Thank you for guiding me and being with us always! Though you are not there physically with us, we still feel your presence and seek your guidance. Your vision for our people is our guiding principle and we will continue to live and work for our people. We fondly remember you and pray to almighty for peace,” Conrad wrote on Twitter.

It may be mentioned that late Sangma served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998. He was the Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990. He died on March 4th, 2016 due to cardiac arrest in New Delhi.
