GUWAHATI: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and apprised about the overall financial position of Meghalaya.
Sangma also submitted a memorandum to her requesting the Centre to increase Meghalaya’s share of central taxes.
He also sought the finance ministry’s support for improving banking infrastructure in the state too.
“The Meghalaya government thanked her for the suggestion to create the infrastructure to enhance the financial empowerment of farmers. To increase the reach of the banking system in the state, we have also submitted a memorandum requesting the minister to incentivise national banks and prioritize the setting up of new bank branches in rural areas of the state,” Sangma said.
