    Coronavirus: Cases Rise To 62 In India; Kerala In Shutdown Mode

    The total number of infected people in Kerala has risen to 15

    India has registered a total of 62 confirmed coronavirus cases (COVID-19), which is up from 44 a day before March 10th, 2020.

    As per the latest government information, new cases have emerged from Bengaluru, Pune and Kerala. Of these 62 cases, 16 are Italians while others are Indians.

    Dismissing reports, the government clarified that two deaths reported from Murshidabad and Ladakh on March 9th, 2020 were both found to be ‘negative’ for COVID-19.

    On the other hand, Kerala has announced a major clampdown on public functions in the state. The total number of infected people in the state has risen to 15. The worst-affected districts include Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Kottayam.

    Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told media that regular classes will stop in all educational institutions, including colleges and professional institutions from March 11th, 2020 as a precautionary measure.

    Only scheduled examinations (SSLC and Higher Secondary) will be allowed in schools. There will also be a ban on summer vacation classes/tuitions. Theatres too have been asked to close down till March-end.

    The Kerala government requested the centres of worship to avoid conducting major festivals to prevent mass gatherings. The State government will also cancel all public functions.

    Meanwhile, the first batch of 58 evacuees from Iran arrived on March 10th, 2020, with 25 men, 31 women and 2 children on board. All the evacuees are monitored and clinically stable presently, according to the latest government information.
