    Coronavirus: Nagaland Closes Educational Institutes, Bans Entry Of Tourists

    In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the Nagaland government has exempted every employee from each and every office/institution from biometric attendance until further order

    The Nagaland government on March 16th, 2020 announced the closure of all schools, colleges, universities in the state from March 17th till April 12th, 2020 as state governments ramped up measures to avoid community transmission of coronavirus.

    However, the ongoing CBSE, CISCE and other board examinations will take place as per schedule.

    Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio convened a high-level meeting on March 16th, 2020 in view of the Covid-19 outbreak on 16th March 2020 at his Secretariat Office, Kohima.

    The Chief Minister urged the elected representatives to go to their respective districts and hold meetings with the District Task Force to combat the spread of the deadly virus.

    The entry of tourists (foreign and domestic) has been banned into the State with effect from March 18th, 2020till further orders.

    Rio directed the concerned departments to man all entry points and check gates into the State and screen people by manpower provided by the State Police forces. The manpower to be trained and provided with equipment by the Department of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW). Training to proceed immediately, according to a government notification.

    Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy stated that the two important aspects of the pandemic were – prevention and preparedness. He stressed on the importance of personal prevention.

    Toy stated that in rural areas, the Department of Rural Development through the Self Help Groups will act as a network channel to assist and help the Department of H&FW in order to contain the pandemic.

    Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare, Dr Vizolie Suokhrie informed that the State till date had no reported or suspected case.

    He stated that the Department has initiated procurement of more Personal Protection Equipment and Ventilators to meet the need of all the districts.

    He also stated that all districts have identified locations for quarantine which includes Military Hospitals, TB Hospitals, AYUSH Hospitals and some Government infrastructures like the DUDA Hostel in Kiphire.  

    The Chief Minister directed all persons, students as well as public, entering into the State to contact Covid-19 helpline no: 7005435243, 9856071745, 7005539653 and Toll-Free no: 1070 or Email: nlssu.idsp@nic.in

    A core committee has been formed to deal with Covid-19 related matters – ‘Special Action Group’ – drawn in from Line Departments including H&FW, IPR, NSDMA, School Education, NBSE, Rural Development, Police, Transport among others.

    Rio also directed the officials to ensure adherence by the citizens on the Advisory issued to avoid public gatherings. The official functions and programmes involving big gatherings including mini hornbills have been put on hold as of now.

    Issuance of new/fresh Inner Line Permits for tourists (domestic/foreigners) and all other categories shall remain suspended with immediate effect until further orders.

    On the other hand, Principal Secretary (Home) Abhijit Sinha, through an official notification on March 16th, 2020 suspended the marking of Biometric attendance based on Aadhar enabled biometric attendance system (AeBAS) with immediate effect in all States Government offices and Nagaland Civil Secretariat till further order.

    He further notified all AHODs/HODs to take immediate steps to ensure that employees mark their attendance in the attendance register as being done earlier during the suspended period of Biometric attendance system.
