    Coronavirus vaccination dry run likely in Guwahati on Jan 2

    States were also asked to address the communication challenges by taking in confidence all the concerned stakeholders

    GUWAHATI: After conducting a dry run of the corona virus vaccination drive in the two districts of Nalbari and Sonitpur districts successfully early this week, the next dry run is likely to be conducted in the capital city of Guwahati on January 2 as Centre has directed a countrywide dry run to ensure effective preparedness for the vaccine rollout.

    Earlier, the dry run was conducted in four states including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Punjab on December 28 and 29 in order to assess the preparation.

    On Thursday, with the objective of gearing up for the rollout of the COVID19 vaccine across the country, union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness for the COVID 19 ( corona ) vaccination with the health department top officials.

    “The activity is proposed to be conducted in all state capitals in at least three session sites. Some states will also include districts that are situated in difficult terrain or have poor logistical support,” said the health ministry in a statement.

    Maharashtra and Kerala are likely to schedule the dry run in major cities other than their Capital.

    It added, “The states have been asked to ensure physical verification of all proposed sites for the adequacy of space, logistical arrangements, internet connectivity, electricity, safety etc; prepare at least three model session sites in each state for demonstration; ensure that the model sites have separate entry and exit in a ‘three-room set-up’ with adequate space outside for awareness generation activities; display all IEC material at these sites; ensure that all SOPs and protocols are being practiced at the identified sites in an ideal environment along with vaccination teams to be identified and trained in all aspects.”

    States were also asked to address the communication challenges by taking in confidence all the concerned stakeholders and by augmenting the community engagement ‘Jan Bhagidari’ through innovative strategies.

    A detailed checklist has been prepared by the Union Health Ministry and shared with the states to guide them in the dry run.
